I wanted to make a hero that was authentically from Bermuda, someone my
community could truly attach to. I realized there were no heroes or villains from Bermuda, and many existing Black superhero characters are unknown and unrecognizable unless you’re a huge fan or have seen them in cinema. You would probably know some fan favorites like Black Panther, John Stewart, Miles Morales, Black Lightning and Static. However, the lack of representation is why I created the 17-year-old Connor Flagg.
Daily Life as a teenager can be tough, managing everyday, the world keeps going on and never waits for no one. I wanted to capture the pressure of constantly being busy, balancing homework and studying, while also managing hero duties
In this Illustration Connor uses an old ancient gadget also known as the codex, it was created before time, a living organism and sounds quite angelic kind and warm in a motherly way, if Connor doesn’t maintain balance in his life, it changes, it sounds aggressive and out of control.
I wanted to fuse this piece with sci-fi fiction mixed with Bermuda culture also you can see my inspiration of the famous show Ben 10, in Connor Flagg, the reason why I created this character is for anyone that feels down or out of place, to know to never give up and fight day after day be to be their own hero. Balance what you love and what you care for, balance your goals and your dreams because life is all about balance.
