I chose to create this piece digitally because it lets me paint with very bright, saturated colors and it’s an art style I feel most confident working in. Digital tools also help me blend and layer colors in a way that supports the mood of the piece.
I used extra negative space on the top and right side so the viewer’s eyes are naturally drawn towards the girl. I wanted her to stand out, similar to how people focus inward when trying to understand their own emotions. She’s looking out of the frame to show that emotions are constant and always shifting beyond what we can see. The emotions themselves are shown metaphorically through intense and colorful patterns on her face and body. These bright , changing colors represent how strong , confusing and ever- changing emotions can be throughout life.
