COVID Innocence

I chose to do a pencil drawing of two babies in masks, holding a toy structured virus that symbolizes COVID-19.  The two babies are of separate races to represent the Black Lives Matter movement, as well as the racial equality and peace we seek for today’s society. The overall concept of my artwork is to showcase the innocence of children who are growing up during a global pandemic, where they do not know anything other than wearing masks. This has brought about a new kind of childhood experience in our society. Last year, 2020 took a toll on my family and me. My bi-racial niece and nephew were born overseas, yet unfortunately we have not been able to see them or witness their first year of growth. This drawing was inspired by the events that affected children being born during the year 2020.
