In Full Bloom‘ is a metaphorical depiction of struggle and its essential underlying beauty. 2020 was a year that challenged, confronted and affected every persons living reality through COVID 19 and even the rapid emergence and recognition of racial disparities and environmental crisis. To me and to many others, 2020 was a year of pain, struggle and loss. Looking back a year later, I only realize that the pain I‘d encountered has cultivated into the most beautiful things I have experienced and known. With heavy texture and thick brushstrokes, I highlight the heaviness of 2020. The woman‘s red eyes that have just cried and the crack in her face, grow vines that extend to all lengths of the canvas, manifesting a big, bloomed forest. This painting is a symbolization and reminder than painful things have every ability to transform and mature into beauty if given a chance; for growth cannot foster without pain. 2020‘s downfalls and struggles has only been an opportunity to learn and to grow, something I see that is parallel in everyone‘s life. We have all struggled in some way during 2020, and this paintings pursuit is a comforting reminder that there is beauty in all pain.
