In my 16 years, there are still many places I have never seen. Recently I started going on drives with my aunt, exploring different neighborhoods or lanes that many may deem insignificant. Through that I have discovered many unappreciated views. One of the most memorable findings was when we went to Tucker’s Town. With it being private property it is already inaccessible to most. In Tucker’s Town, there is a beach that is members only, restricted from even those in the community. It is a stunning beach concealed from the eyes of locals.
In my artwork, I wanted to depict people looking over a fence onto “The Other Side”. That side being the spaces that are unattainable for many and continue to be hidden from the public eye. The beach goers belongings have landed on that side and with it being members only are unable to retrieve them. The piece touches the topics of class divide and expresses my personal views on landforms being owned or considered private property.
