2020 was hectic. It held us hostage from our normal lives. In my painting I am shown as a prisoner, specifically, Prisoner #2020. Hopelessly reaching out to what my life should have been or rather would have been if not for the pandemic. Held back by the virus, shown as a ball and chain, I am helpless and I am hopeless. Beyond that door is all that I missed out on during the year 2020. Carelessly chatting, travelling, attending public events, playing sports, and spending time with my friends and family. The pattern on the door represents the constant protocols, including wearing a mask. The multiple locks symbolize a bunker protecting the status quo we hope to live in once again. Finally, the moon and the stars depict how it seems that normalcy is nothing more than a dream.
