My idea for this art-piece was to draw a gombey standing below a night sky in Hamilton. The reason for this is because I believe at first, tourists see Bermuda for its pretty beaches and pink sand as well as for its nice weather and colorful housing. However, this leaves Bermuda’s actual culture and traditions left behind with no appreciation. Furthermore, I drew a dull night sky to create effect and let the gombey shine brighter, helping capture the hidden beauty of Bermuda.
The only medium I chose was acrylic paint. Personally, I find it to be very easy to work with, as most of the time I can choose the thickness of paint using water to smooth it down, making its usage very free and flexible. Not only this, but it is easy to paint across your canvas and normally, if kept well, do not dry easily.
