Unexplored Wonders

My artwork shows a beautiful whale in a sea filled with liveliness and color without any human intervention or disruption. Also my artwork is filled with varieties of plants and coral to show vibrant biodiversity. I chose this piece in relation to the theme of unseen bermuda because it’s not very often we get to see nature in its true color flourishing and the ocean is a vast sea of unexplored wonders which I think many people can’t say they’ve seen. The techniques I used in the this artwork were the layerings of watercolor with many earthy tones to really capture the ocean feel in this piece. The darkest color I used was the navy blue on the whale to contrast with the white background and making it the centre of the attention even though the background was busy. I used thin wavy lines for the corals and sea fans for simplicity as sometimes less is more. Although I have quite a lot of busy space I left tiny negative space to represent how the ocean can flow even in the smallest places. In conclusion I chose this piece for the competition ‘theme of unseen Bermuda’ because nature isn’t truly seen until its full beauty is shown and appreciated.
